New Decade, New Release

Under Covers 2015 (sm)It’s my birthday month! Yes my birthday was earlier this month and just like I have done around every birthday for the past four years, this year I am releasing my fifth novel Under Covers. This one is more of a novella and a shorter story but it is packed with real life, real love and real faith which is all I am about when it comes to writing.

I invite you to meet my girl Naomi. She is about to get married to Jordan Lennox, the son of a former governor of New York and a successful businessman in his own right. And to top it off, he loves her like crazy. Sounds perfect right? Well it is, until Naomi faces a crises with her missing sister Camille. And when the search for her sister sends her back ‘home’ to the island of her birth, the real drama begins. Suddenly a lot of things that she had carefully packed away, things that she neglected to tell her husband-to-be are now coming to the surface. Will she be faithful to God and the man of her future or will she succumb to the security of her past? You got to read it to find out!

I really enjoyed writing this story. I actually finished it late last year then I lost the document and had to rewrite half of it. But I think all things happen for a reason and you have gotten the best version of Naomi’s story. I invite you to take the journey with her. Pick up Under Covers on Amazon, Kobo, iBooks or your favorite ebook retailer. And of course you can get the paperback on Amazon. And please let me know what you think!

Happy reading!

I’m finished. Now what? …on TWOTS

Getting to the end of a book is usually satisfying. For the writer, the feeling of completing a manuscript is even more satisfying. But now that you’ve done it, now that you’re sitting there with this 87 000 word long document, you must be asking yourself, what next? If the spotlight is what you seek then it’s time to get published…

Are you sitting on a finished manuscript, unsure of where to go next? I talk about a few options for unpublished writers on my latest post on the Word on the Street Blog. Find out the important things you should be doing as you seek to get your book from your computer hard drive to a book store shelf. I can’t possibly address everything in one post, so send me your questions and I will be sure to help however I can!

Book signing @ Chapters – March 2012

I had my first ever book signing event at the Chapters Bookstore at Kennedy Commons, Scarborough, on Sunday March 11, 2012. It went better than I expected and I met a lot of great people. Special thanks to everyone who stopped by, chatted with me and bought my book. I can’t wait for the next one!

Much Ado about Christian Fiction

So in case you missed the memo I am a Christian Fiction writer. Don’t believe? Check the link up top to my books and the link to my website home for more info. Most people’s next question is, what is Christian Fiction? And even if you have an inkling of what it is, that inkling might have you conjouring up images of pale skinned southern women in milkmaids dresses, wearing white bonnets on a prairie field somewhere. Let me assure you, that’s not what I write about.  But unfortunately that’s still the box that most people put Christian Fiction in. Check out this article from Reviews Library Journal on the issue. My February release One Way or Another, gets a mention along with some other great titles.

New year, new release

I know it’s been a long time guys (okay a really long time). But hey! Happy New Year and I hope you’ve had a great season. This girl here has been going through a lot of life changes. You get to share one with me on February 28, 2012 with the release of my second novel One Way or Another. I really love this book and I hop you will too. I even got a pretty decent review:

'One Way or Another' by Rhonda Bowen

“Less a traditional romance novel and more a story of faith and redemption, Bowen’s sophomore outing enchants from the first page…”

Great start to a review right? Read the whole things at:
http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-7582-5958-5

This title will be available in stores, in at online retailers, and in electronic format. If you want to pre-order you can pick it up at amazon.com or amazon.ca.

You could also win a free copy in the Goodreads contest. See http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/19235-one-way-or-another for details.

I’m so excited! Are you?

You Had Me at Good-bye by Tracey Bateman

I usually stick to urban christian fiction, but I was browsing on Amazon when I saw this book some time ago. I read the summary and decided it was worth a purchase. I was not disappointed.

You Had Me at Goodbye is about Dancy Ames, an aspiring lower level editor trying to climb the corporate ladder to a coveted senior editor position. Too bad she gets canned before it can happen. And not only that, the job she was aiming it goes to a guy who she has a huge crush on. So she does what any self-respecting former editor would do: she writes a book of her own, and the drama ensues.

I love books written in the first person, especially when the protagonist has a great voice that pops off the page at you. Dancy Ames is one of those. And though she is a sad little rich girl, you can’t help but feel bad for her, as she deals with her issues with her mother (which of us doesn’t have a few of those?), her issues with her boss, her attraction to her older brother’s best friend, and all the real and imagined tragedy that comes with life in New York. Though the Christian themes aren’t overt, this book has a satisfying end. I’ve read it twice already. It’s definitely in my top ten.

Let me know if you’ve read it!
